![]() Furthermore, there is an abundance of subsonic loads on the market, which allow for nearly silent shooting: When shooting slower loads out of my rifles with an Outback suppressor the only audible sound from the gun is the click of the sear releasing the hammer and striking the cartridge rim. 22LR produces so little propellant pressure and volume, suppressors for the caliber can be made very small and light. It has negligible recoil and minimal muzzle blast, making it ideal for training youth or new shooters.Īs I have noted elsewhere, it is a great round for shooting with suppressors: Because. In fact it is used for many target sports, including a majority of olympic shooting events. Match-grade loads from a suitable rifle can produce 1-inch groups at 100 yards. Quality loads can be found for under $.05/round. It is very cheap and widely available.22LR ammunition is attractive for several reasons: However there is some evidence that this cartridge is underestimated. Common wisdom holds that it is too weak to use for defense against humans or for hunting any animal larger than a raccoon. I'm fixing to get the tooling to reload 300blk it but I have many projects ahead.22LR is the smallest firearm cartridge in common use today. Someone else will chime in on 300blk, I refuse to pay $0.60+ per round as that is what subs run. It's typically 230gr and it's such a heavy bullet that it usually runs 800-900fps without having to buy any special subsonic ammo. ![]() 45 is that just about all of it is already subsonic. It run's great in all my pistols and rifles and auto SMG and I source it locally for pretty cheap. I've had great luck with Gemtech 42gr Subsonic ammo. The American Eagle goes for $189.80 per thousand ($0.19 per round) but right now they are running a rebate promo and its $1 off every box so it's $169.80 for a 1000!. AE and Speer Lawman is pretty much the same, but I prefer the AE over Lawman. I shoot 10's of thousands of rounds of this ammo a year and I love it. Typically I use Federal American Eagle 147gr. SGammo is great but I've had much better luck lately with and usually their shipping is free.įiocchi 158gr is the best subsonic ammo hands down!!! It's my favorite 9mm ammo to blast through and burns very clean but it comes in at $2 rounds ($0.285 per round) so I keep that for special occasions. I pretty much only shoot subsonics as everything I own is suppressed and I only shoot outdoors with no hearing pro. This comes from trial and error once you try some different rounds. When shooting suppressed your going to get a lot more blowback into the gun of power so picking an ammo that burns cleaner can get you a lot further without having to clean as much. The last variable is the 'cleanliness' of the round. All ammo boxes are going to have ratings on the box with stated FPS of the round but with pistol cartridges it's going to state FPS shooting out of a pistol length barrel so if your shooting out of carbine or full length with the pistol round you might be reaching higher velocity's. The longer the barrel the more time it's going to have to speed up and get closer to the sound barrier and louder it will be. You also have to take into account barrel length. The key to finding subsonic ammo is finding ammo that is going to shoot below the sound barrier which is 1125fps.
